C-50-5's built by International Car in 1974 for both SP #1930-1980 and SSW #78-93.

Details:

  • diagonally braced smoke-jack,
  • full end-plate on the roof ends,
  • round cornered bay windows,
  • side, door and end windows have square corners,
  • internal fuel tank with filler mounted lower on the end wall,
  • four? battery box doors, axle-hung generator and two windows this side,
  • air receiver under bay, no louvered vent for the lav. only one window this side,
  • sill cut-outs,
  • delivered with:
    • double 'frog-eye' marker lights,
      • changed to single 'bug-eye' markers probably about Oct 1979
    • aluminum-framed windows screens,
    • mineral red with orange bay ends and end walls,

Apart from the obvious lettering differences, the Cotton Belt cars were built to the same specs.

from D. Scott Chatfield: via the (sp mailing list)

>As for the Walthers car, it's closest to the C-50-5,
>but there are a number of minor differences between
>this Milwaukee Road prototype and any SP class, so
>at best it's a stand-in.
